OCAS Partners with College of Nurses of Ontario to Explore Ways to Streamline Nursing Examination Registrations

GUELPH, ON, August 31, 2018 – OCAS is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) – one that will explore ways to improve the experience for nursing program graduates embarking on the next phase of their career journey.

What Have We Achieved So Far?

Earlier this year, OCAS and CNO took on the challenge together of understanding how nursing students navigate the obstacles associated with applying to write their registration examinations.

Through numerous discussions and information sessions, as well as an outreach survey, we have opened up several channels for collecting feedback to ensure we consider as many diverse perspectives as possible while working toward a solution.

From the feedback collected so far, we have discovered several opportunities to streamline the registration examination application process for nursing students, including technology integration, transcript date standardization, and business process improvements between the CNO, colleges and universities.

Leveraging our technology expertise, OCAS has created a prototype version of a new technology solution that will transform the examination application process into an automated one. In the next phase of this collaborative project, we will be reaching out to our college partners and university system colleagues for their input.

OCAS and CNO Partnership

With over 8,000 students from across Ontario applying to become nurses each year, our partnership with CNO will help OCAS extend its support of college nursing program applicants beyond graduation as they prepare to begin their careers.

“The College of Nurses of Ontario is excited to partner with OCAS to leverage current technology which will automate CNO’s current course completion confirmation process,” says Suzanne Vogler, Manager, Entry to Practice at CNO.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the College of Nurses of Ontario toward smoothing out exam registration for nursing students,” says Karen Creditor, President and Chief Executive Officer at OCAS. “We appreciate the opportunity to consult across systems in a collaborative way with our university and college system colleagues, and we look forward to continuing that work in the next phase of the project.”

What’s Next?

In the coming weeks, OCAS and CNO will be kicking off the second phase of the project, which will focus on a pilot of the new solution. During this pilot, we will be working with a group of several colleges and universities, in consultation with our colleagues at the OUAC, to identify any gaps and gathering feedback to enhance the solution and ensure it’s ready for use by nursing exam applicants.

We look forward to sharing more details of this collaboration with you in the months ahead. Once again, we’d like to express our excitement over this new opportunity to extend our technology to support college graduates.
